Sole physio on the Falkland Islands!
One of her most challenging posts was spending 2 years in the Falkland Islands…as their sole physiotherapist! This meant caring for 1200 military, 100 accompanying families, and around 1500 or so islanders. Working with such a varied age range - from 8 weeks to 93 years old - meant that a ‘one shoe size fits all’ approach to physiotherapy was well and truly out the window! She treated a huge range of conditions and often had to be flown in by helicopter or plane to reach her patients. Treatment approaches needed to be creative and tailored for each individual, and this remains at the heart of her approach today.
These innovative skills were put to the test whilst working at Headley Court, the military’s specialist rehabilitation centre. Headley Court is the home of the ‘Help for Heroes’ centre - where the most severely injured soldiers are sent for rehabilitation. This is where Lynn experienced the true meaning of teamwork, with clinicians uniting to treat patients with extreme physical, mental and emotional wounds that are rarely seen anywhere else
New treatment protocols
Lynn is now a highly regarded physiotherapist who is committed to pioneering new treatment protocols. She is currently working on projects to develop better treatment following hip arthroscopy surgery and lower limb injuries, and hopes to publish some of this work in 2011.
Lynn is married to John and they have three lovely daughters. She is still a serving member of the TA and is an enthusiast for sprint triathlons, craftwork (cards and jewellery), and sleep (preferably a good 8 hours a night).
Lynn is a dynamic and innovative physiotherapist with a real passion for helping to improve the lives of others.
After graduating from the University of Salford with an honours degree in Physiotherapy, she spent the next 2 years working within the NHS. But with a military background (both her parents were in the army), adventure and challenge were never far from her mind. In 2003 she joined the Territorial Army and swapped the NHS for a career as a physio in the military.
"Lynn's professionalism and depth of knowledge is helping me recover from an injury that I was very concerned about. The programme of rehab she has put me on is really working and I'm already feeling the benefits within a week!”
Neil Poynter, Director
"During my training for various marathons and ironman distance triathlons I have picked up little niggles and injuries which hindered my results. Lynn has identified the underlying issues and resolved them with manual therapy and an ongoing stability programme. Without Lynn I would not be competing again at these distances"
